The Bremer Detail:
Protecting the Most Threatened Man in the World
By Frank Gallagher with John M. Del Vecchio
An eye-opening, boots-on-the-ground memoir by the Agent-in-Charge of protecting Ambassador Paul Bremer during his term as administrator of Iraq following the fall of Saddam Hussein
Baghdad, 2003: An elite group of private security contractors is charged with protecting the American who rules Iraq. In his new memoir, The Bremer Detail: Protecting the Most Threatened Man in the World, Marine Corps Vet and Fmr. Director of Security for Fmr. U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger, Frank Gallagher takes the reader deep behind the scenes of one of the world's most dangerous professions.
In May of 2003
George W. Bush appointed Paul Bremer as Presidential Envoy to Iraq. Charged with
laying the foundation for a new government, Bremer disbanded the Iraqi Army and
banned the ruling Ba'ath party. In the process he became the prime target for
dozens of insurgent and terrorist groups. Assigned to protect him during his
grueling sixteen-hour days were Blackwater security expert Frank Gallagher and a
team of former Marines, SEALs, and other defense professionals.
When Gallagher
and his team arrived, Baghdad was set to explode. As the insurgency gathered
strength, Bremer and the men who guarded him faced death daily. They were not in
the military, but Gallagher and his team were on the front lines of the Iraq
War. The Bremer Detailis a thrilling memoir that reveals the numerous
occasions that Gallagher and his team literally saved lives through their
reactions to ever-present danger.
In this book,
Frank Gallagher has captured all the drama and difficulties of operating in a
violent war zone, post-Saddam Iraq. As head of my personal security detail, he
vividly captures the tense and dangerous duty he and his dedicated colleagues
carried out under the most trying circumstances. On a number of occasions, some
of them revealed in this book, Gallagher and his team literally saved lives -
mine and others - through their quick and professional reactions to danger.
--L. Paul Bremer III, Fmr. Presidential Envoy to
Iraq
